We visited the research assistant/partner in Peterborough.
The first thing that came up - was that she said she'd been injected with a substance when 'shadows' overtook the lab. She described the attackers, and it was obvious that they were Methias' Shades. They are creatures artificailly created and controlled. They take the energy from the environment to exist, and so look completely black. They don't really have set forms, as the energy feild can change shape so they often do look like 'shadows' (thus the name). Except these shadows can kill. They do have a physical form. We used to use them, but they were abandoned many many years ago. I never really looked into why - it was when I was young. I think it involved the Shade's energy-absorbtion. If the Shade touched a living thing, it would absorb the energy of the lifeform and kill it. This wasn't an intentional feature by the creators of course, and so that's why I think they were decommissioned. Well it should have been. But Methias took it as an advantage, and took all the prototypes.
Getting back to the woman we visited. We were surprised that she was still alive after having contact with the Shades. Julian drew a sample of blood to try and find the substance injected. She told us that her partner had been attacked and injected at the same time. She was still thinking that there was an accident with one of the materials he was using which exploded and killed him. I decided it was best to let her keep thinking that - so we didn't confirm or deny that allegation.
Tharis contacted me, saying that he had managed to crack and veiw the code that we inputted. I was surprised to learn that it was actually a 'deactivate' code. He couldn't say much more, being unaware of the machinery it was programming, but he could identify the intruction to deactivat. So, the code that we took DEactivated the viral mechanisms. We had been operating on the assumption that the virus was inactive until receiving a signal to begin to collate and destroy. Now everything changed: the virus acted like a normal virus and only stopped when told. It was becoming more evident that we had to alert the human authorities.
We took all the information about the research that we could from her; our assumptions were correct in that they were microexplosive experts. Methias used their research to improve the explosive capability of his virus. It's obvious now that this has nothing to with destroying the internet. This is using a virus to destroy human civilisation.
Before we left, she started to feel sick. Julian stayed close by and analysed her. It just kept getting worse, and her skin changed the most interesting colour as is shook and warped like the ocean in a storm. I didn't know what to do other than watch. Alastor, who had gotten Tharis' message as well, began shouting to send the signal to stop the virus. Julian retorted that we didn't know the effects of that, or that she had been infected with a virus or the same virus, or that something else he began to say before Alastor cut him off. I thought he had raised good points, but I guess the time to think had been skipped since she was dying - and we still needed her to help locate the Shades. Alastor ran to the car and used the broadcaster.
There was a moment when we were all afraid we were going to be in the midst of an explosion. I had changed into my dragon form, covering Arthur and Julian from a potential blast. But nothing happened. We just stood, frozen, waiting. I looked around to the woman, whom lay still on the couch. Nothing moved, so we began to approach. I stayed dragon, despite damaging her house - I was a lot bigger than it was designed to hold. Upon closer inspection, it was evident that she had died. How? I didn't know. Julian is finishing his autopsy right now. Alastor padded back into the (ruined) lounge to see if it had worked.
We're all waiting on Julian's report to know what happened, and what effect the signal had on the virus - if any. It goes without saying that we had to get out of the place quickly - Methias would be arriving to claim his murder. But we had already interfered - we couldn't hide that fact. So we did what he was doing - we placed some of the explosive substances in her living room (yes, normal people would wonder why she had dangerous explosive material in her living room, but Methias has long since decreed that all human activity is stupid and below his interest) and placed some of her remains there. We then detonated the material.
These are the hard decisions. Having to desecrate a person's body to hide our involvement in Methias' plans. But ultimately it would benefit humanity. We didn't remove much tissue, really, and she had already died. That's how we justify it anyway. Doesn't change the fact it was greusome. I wondered how Arthur would take it, but he seemed curiously subdued. Like it was nothing new. I couldn't let my curiosity wander though. We have much larger things at hand.
We left, removing traces of ourselves, and waited. Arthur was happy to remain at a distance to observe Methias' reaction. Well I say happy, I should have said 'willing'. He hadn't been seen by Methias yet, so he would just come across as another human - the great benefit of being a naturally born human. As is obvious, we have the ability to detect genetically engineered life forms. There are clear signs that a body has been either created in a lab, or has had its genome created in a lab at some point. Arthur's human body had no involvement, so he would pass the test. Unfortunately the rest of us had to be long gone. It was just him. He's on his way back now.
I look forward to hearing from him.

Unexpected Gap Filled With Life
It's been some time since I updated last. Maybe it hasn't been that long, but it feels a long time ago.
It was a couple of weeks ago that Arthur left. At first, he just went off to see his old friend. All was fine. But then there was an incident, and a death, and then he was gone.
Alastor was the one who spoke with him, when he came back briefly. He told me that he and his friend had been threatened in an alleyway, and so Arthur had changed to his wolf form to ward them off. That's a big mistake. He knew that we can't ever actually change infront of everyday humans. Of course there was a better way to handle it. But, as Alastor said, he is only young and inexperienced, and was just protecting himself and his friend. But still. The damage had been done, and that group of thugs witnessed our secret. As had his friend - Nick or something. Thankfully all were intoxicated, and Nick was able to handle it.
They walked home with another friend, apparently, when the thugs returned. Alastor said it was this moment that Arthur realised the reasoning behind our rule. Out of fear, the gangleader fired his gun at Arthur. Arty was lucky, as the intoxicated nervous man missed. The woman they were with, however, wasn't so lucky. She died at the scene as authorities arrived.
Alastor worked with Peterson to cover up Arthur's involvement, as the police asked many questions that Arthur couldn't answer. Hutchinson released him from local custody. He stayed out, to console his friend, and went to the funeral. He came back to Alastor, where they had a talk in Nine. After that - he left again. We all just let him go, since we thought he just needed space to think.
After a few days we tried to find him. No luck. We searched for a while a few days, but no sign. He is easy to locate, as we all are, thanks to Tharis' tracking system. He wasn't in the UK at all anymore. I called a meeting with all the Sectors and told them of the predicament. Amazingly, Ramah told us that he had travelled all the way to Asia to learn from him and Sultan. He said that we told him to, so they didn't question his presence. According to Ramah, Sultan had been teaching him stealth techniques and a form of martial arts. "Ninja Style" as Arthur had put it. He had been a fast learner, and had left after a week. He said he thought he was back with us.
So that left us with Arthur, missing, in Asia somewhere. Tharis couldn't track past the shores of the Isle.
So he was gone. We had no idea what he was doing or where he was. I was angry for him just leaving, but very worried as to why, and how he was handling it. I couldn't ignore the things happening back home, but I couldn't just leave Arthur. We had downloaded the code broadcast from Cambridge that killed the Beast of Dartmoor, but it was relatively useless to us - none of us could decypher it. Tharis tried his decryption on it, but he hasn't gotten very far. It's just so different to anything that we have used. There was once a time that I was impressed with Methias' enginuity like this. But now, while it is still impressive, it makes me resentful.
There was another death - Methias isn't going to stop trying to destroy the world just because we're not ready to chase him. Alastor assured me he would find Arthur and bring him home, while Julian and I were looking at what had happened in Cannock. We got another team member to look after Nine for us during this scattered time. Arctiurus came up from his station in Sector One in Antarctica - he said there wasn't a lot happening that needed his attention for a few weeks. It was nice to see him again, and hopefully we can reminise more closely later before he returns back to the snow.
As it stands right now: Alastor has told me he has found Arthur, and they are coming home soon. Thankfully he was ok. I'm sure Alastor has given him a stern talking to, so I doubt I need to pile on to that too much. Julian and I have just returned from Cannock after confering with Hutchinson and Peterson about the explosion there. Arctiurus has had the climate settings lowered substantially, so it's practically freezing in the main control room now. But we forgive him, he is a polar bear after all. I don't mind it myself, as I am well accustomed to all ranges of temperatures - but Julian has worn his coat more often. Even with his thick fur.
I anticipate greatly Alastor and Arthur's arrival.

Investigating Elm
We've detected some strange movement happening in Elm, not too far from Munford. Alastor and I have decided to drive there and take a look. Julian's staying behind, in the lab. I don't think he really heard us - he was too focused on looking at the cells under the microscope. Besides, I needed to get away from Munford for a while. Any memories from the past don't go down to well right now.
We've only just started out driving, Alastor driving of course (otherwise how could I be writing this?). It's fairly silent, but I guess it always is with Alastor in the car. He can say the most profound things, but he isn't a chatterbox. His thinking is that words are powerful, and precious, and so should be used purposefully. But I still enjoy our converstations, even if I am the one that initiates all the time.
I feel bad for not telling Arthur where we're going. But he's safer in the lab, and I wanted to leave him sleep. It's strange, it wasn't weird for us to share a room. He asked why, but I explained that there are many rooms that contain unknown dangers and I wanted to be sure he would be safe. He replied to me, that I meant I just wanted to make sure he didn't touch anything. And I can't say he wasn't right. The lab in Munford contains many dangerous chemicals and disease strains that were used in the Foreones' experimentation and research. After all this time I can't be sure what has or hasn't broken free and spread. Or what was left behind in some of the researcher's rooms.
No doubt this trip will result in nothing. It was just a observation made by Peterson to Alastor, and normally we wouldn't have bothered but given the circumstances I thought we might as well. Alastor seems to want Arthur to take over communications with the human authorities - Peterson and Hutchinson. Apparently he has a better understanding of the way humans work and communicate. Half of me thinks that's true, and the other half thinks that Alastor just wants to give Arthur something to do, a task of his own. And also so he doesn't have to deal with them. As lovely a person Peterson is, Alastor just doesn't like involving himself with humans too much. He says they are too chatty with pointless information. Too many social expectations on their communication. I just laugh at him.
Well here we are, Elm. Rather pointless entry, I know, but I needed something to do.

Danger
It's getting dangerous. A poisonous electronic virus that has the potential to explode? Dangerous. I can't help but feel responsible. If I had just stopped him before all of this - then we wouldn't be here. Arthur wouldn't be in danger - I put his life on the line for this stupid capture. He could have died, and it would have been entirely my fault.
He's more than just a friend. And I was willing to use him like that? Maybe I'm really not that different to Methias.
It won't be long until Methias works out how to infect humans with this virus. I don't know exactly how it works, but I know enough about the end result. All I can do is hope he hits a stump. It leaves me thinking - what if I had just put an end to it years ago? It's all my fault, because it's all his.

Across the Moors
It was difficult, but we caught him.
Just on sunset we drove across the moor to lay down a perimeter - Alastor drove. He was more surley than normal. It got darker, and more foreboding, once we had finished putting up the enclosure (an invisible barrier that doesn't let anything pass through it). Once it was too dark to drive as human, Alastor changed and converted the car to allow him to drive as tiger. We didn't want any suspicions arising from the headlights, so we didn't turn them on - just got a driver that could see better in the dark.
Arthur was nervous. He kept saying that we had trapped ourselves in with Skarin - and the idea of a trap wasn't to trap the captors in with the beast. The area was quite large, so we had to go on foot to find him. I stuck with Alastor, since I couldn't change and being human was vunerable. Julian and Arthur split off and went searching on the other side to try and bring Skarin into the centre. We trekked for what felt like hours, but we were successful. In the end, we had to use Arthur as bait. He of course wasn't happy about it, but I wouldn't have let harm come to him. I said that to him, but he knew that I knew I couldn't help him quick enough should Skarin attack. But he was brave, and waited in the darkness for Skarin to arrive. We assumed he would find Arthur, since he'd come up to him once before. Alastor, Julian and I hid out of sight.
We waited. It was cold, and terribly dark - I couldn't see much at all. There was mist wafting through the trees which made the scene akin to a horror film...which was probably why Arthur was starting to panic. Skarin darted about around him for a moment, and then dove for Arthur - Arty's senses only just sharp enough to avoid the attack. Skarin turned to face him, and stopped to look for a moment, and we seized the opportunity. Julian shot sedative at him, Alastor bound him so he wouldn't run and injure himself as he fell down, and I - well I watched. There wasn't much I could do. All I could see of him was his red eyes. Even knowing what he was, he still unnerved me - standing there, human and defenseless. It's no wonder there were legends of him being a monster from Hell.
We put him in the back of the car, and drove off. We headed to Munford, where an old biolabratory remained in good working order. It was there where all the original genetic experiments took place, and once housed the most advanced biological equipment there was on the planet. I suppose really, it still does, even if it's been abandoned for so long. We put him in the main cage - more of a confinement room, it's not like there were bars or anything. He would be out for a little while Julian said, so we took the chance to have a rest. Arthur took the first watch, since he slept in the car. I say slept, but really he had passed out after Skarin attacked him and woke up almost at Munford. Julian may have had something to do with that as well.
I'm just updating now before I sleep for a while. In a few hours, Julian will start looking at his genome and examining him thoroughly. I want to be there for that, since I'm not really sure what he's looking for. It's been ages since I was here. The place has hardly changed though, just a little unkept is all. Last time I was here, the scientists were trying to create a new body for a crippled soldier. I was so interested in all their experiments, but they kept ushering me away. I couldn't tell if it was just because I was young, or if it was because they didn't want me to see what they were doing. Anyway, quite a few memories here. Long lost now though.

To Dartmoor
On the darkened moors of England, prowls a deadly creature. Black as night, vicious, with bright red eyes and power beyond the human imagination. He is rarely seen, and no human has ever been attacked by him... and lived. And we're going to catch him.
I thought he needed a good introduction. Some call him 'The Beast', others a Hellhound, a Demon, 'killer shadow', and I remember Arcturus calling him Bob once...and the list goes on. We just call him The Beast of Dartmoor, since there are many like him around the world and it gets hard to know them all by name. Arthur insisted we name him, so 'Skarin' he became. There was one in Bodmin, just close to Dartmoor - but she was more leopard-like than lion-like in the wolf/big cat hybridisation.
So yes, anyway, what we had decided is that if Methias is going to be involved in genetic engineering, then what we'll have to do is have a look at it ourselves. Since we don't really have the resources to make our own experiments, and we need something live - since that's what he'll be doing - we thought we might as well use what resources we DO have, and that is Skarin. We won't hurt him, but we need to borrow him for a while. We will return him to his natural environment where he was released decades ago. He'd be... about 150 years old. I haven't looked into it, but I would assume his lifespan would be about 300 maximum. The Foreones weren't using him as a test subject for longevity.
We're in Dartmoor now, just waiting for it to be night. The sun is about to start setting, and so we will go out and lay our traps for Skarin. He comes out at night, so we'll do most of our searches then. Away from prying eyes. I of course can't go in natural form, I can't risk it. But the others will. Arthur says that his natural form is now wolf, but we have a disagreement on the definition of the word. But I just let him win, since I suppose English is his native language even if I have been speaking it for hundreds of years.
More updates as they happen.

Now Nano
Jack Peterson came to us saying that there was some suspicious activity going on in a lab in Derby. One of the researchers had deterred from his tasks, and went off on a large tangent - and made some brilliant advancements on that tangent. But one of the other researchers were getting concerned about it and contacted David Hutchinson (A partner of Peterson). By the time we got there, the damage was done. Another blackend body.
The research was taken, the prototypes were gone, and the building was scorched. It hadn't been too long, since there was still the slight crackle of fire in the rubble being extinguished. He makes it hard, when he takes all the evidence with him. But I guess if he made it easy, he wouldn't be such a threat.
The dead researcher's wife has given us all his work and notes he kept at home, for us to copy and then return. She was understandably distraught, as was their child. I remember when I lost my parents - I was only young too. At least she still has her mother - I wasn't so lucky...I was all alone, with just my younger brother. Even he left me in the end, not too long after that day. Really, he had a right to leave.
Getting back on topic...Tharis has returned a suspicion, that Methias is restarting the old Genetic Engineering of our Foreones. He would have access to the main database's information, but not to the pre-set equipment that we do that Tharis controls for us (for the majority), so he'd have to seek out the help of humans pioneering in their fields. We had a meeting the other day with all of the Sectors, and Tharis, and concluded the above suspicion.
